Biography
MaxAdolf Friedrich Behn, nicknamed Fritz, was born on his parents' estateKlein Grabow near Güstrow.He is the grandson of HeinrichTheodor Behn,a former mayor of Lübeck.
Hewent to the Katharineum school inLübeck, then attended the MunichMunich Academy of Fine Arts from1898 à 1900. There he studied under Adolfvon Hildebrand andWilhelmWilhelm von Rümannamong others. Prince Regent Luitpoldof Bavaria becamepatron and friend. He decorated him with the medalthe Prinzregent-Luitpold medal andand promoted him to the title of professor.
From1907 to 1909, he traveled to Africaandand Southand South Americastudying the anatomy of large wild animals. He alsoplaster representations of wild animals.During the winter of 1911-1912, he travels to Parisandvisited AugusteRodin.In 1914, he enlisted on the Western Front. After a short spell at thefront in northern France, he served from March 1915 until hisuntil his return in January 1916 to the headquarters ofRupprechtof Bavaria in Lille.Lille.
Afterhis return from the war,he lives in a country house in the Karwendel.During this period, he published articles with monarchist tendencies.From 1923 to 1925, he returned to SouthAmerica.In 1927, he became an illustrator for the newspaper VölkischerBeobachter[1].From 1931 to 1932, he made a third trip to Africa. À1925, he works and lives in Schwabing,a district of Munich.
From1939 to 1945, he was a professor at the AcademyAcademy of Fine Arts in Vienna.He then moved to Ehrwaldforcontinue his work there, before returning to Munich in 1951.
OnOn the occasion of his 90th birthday in 1968, the city of Lübeckpresented him with a Senatsplakette, a kind ofhonorary citizen's medal.
