16th Century Painting With Saints Peter And Paul
Refined oil painting on canvas depicting Saints Peter and Paul. Saint Peter on the left is depicted barefoot, wearing a tunic and cloak, holding a book and the keys of the church, typical attributes of the saint and symbols of the spiritual power received from Jesus. To his right is Saint Paul, also barefoot, wearing similar robes but in different colors, with one hand raised while the other holds the sword, a symbol of his martyrdom. This remarkable painting, whose stylistic rendering of the figures and the skillful use of color are appreciated, has minor gaps and defects, and some paint loss. It is a painting of great taste and refinement, capable of lending a touch of class and antiquity to any setting. 16th-century Tuscan craftsmanship.
