Weighing Case With Marine Decoration In Martin Varnish, Circa 1820

Artist: Godefroid
Signed scale bearing the label "Godefroid à l'A couronné", in a Martin varnish box with sunset marine decor, Paris, circa 1800-1820.
Box: 16.5x6 cm.
Balance with weights in grams and gros, either in modern and antique units. A few weights are missing, and one of the small lids with inner slide is damaged.

The painted wooden box is covered with an exceptional martin varnish decoration of a marine view of the setting or rising sun.
It is rare to find a money-weight or money-changer's box with such a decoration.
The painting on the upper lid is of great finesse.
The box measures 16.5x6x2.8cm.
