Neapolitan Nativity Scene
Refined composition depicting the Neapolitan nativity scene.
The sculptural group of the Holy Family is inserted in an architectural aedicule defined by two fluted columns with Corinthian capitals finely executed in gilded wood, whose shafts frame a material wall in cork and stucco.
The Virgin is depicted with a carmine tunic and a powder blue cloak with flowing drapes, while Saint Joseph is wrapped in a voluminous ocher cloak. In the centre, the Baby Jesus rests in a manger, the perspective fulcrum of the entire scene.
All figures have glass eyes.
