19th Century Repoussé Copper Bas-relief, Bacchanal Of Putti With Goat, After Duquenoy. Plaque
Antique repoussé copper decorative plaque depicting a bacchanal of children (putti) with a goat. The composition is inspired by Baroque reliefs attributed to the sculptor François Duquesnoy, a theme widely disseminated in European decorative art. The scene shows several putti playing around a goat in a vegetal setting, a subject associated with Bacchic iconography. The copper is hammered and repoussé, the relief formed by hammering from the reverse. The reverse is visible, revealing the repoussé work. A mounting hole is present at the top, indicating former mounting on furniture, a box, or a decorative panel. Probably produced in the 19th century, in the style of 17th-century Baroque models. A decorative art object depicting a classic motif of Bacchic iconography.
