"White Marble Sculpture"
Refined white marble sculpture depicting a young woman caught in the act of covering herself with a cloth, iconography that recalls the theme of the "surprised bather", a subject dear to the rococo taste of the 18th century. The model, attributable to the work of the famous French sculptor Étienne-Maurice Falconet (1716–1791), is part of the neoclassical tradition of mythological and allegorical subjects interpreted in a sentimental key. The FALCONET signature engraved on the base refers to the most popular models in French manufacturers of the time.
