Wall Bracket In Terra Cotta - Imp Décor - Signed Barlès, Late 19th Century
Original terracotta wall bracket depicting a group of fallen imps or cherubs, dating from the late 19th century. The lively composition shows several winged childlike figures evolving around an architectural support, in a stylized foliage setting. One of the figures is depicted seated, while two others cling to the top in a mischievous attitude, typical of the decorative taste of the period.
The modelling is fine.
The modeling is finely treated, with a fine sculptural quality highlighting expressions, body volumes and the overall movement of the scene. The terracotta has an old natural patina that reinforces the decorative character of the whole.
This console was intended for a period when it was used as a decorative piece.
This console was intended to be wall-mounted to accommodate a small sellette, sculpture or decorative element. The reverse is fitted for wall-mounting.
