François-Auguste Ravier (1814-1895) - Paysage du Dauphiné, oil on canvas marouflage
Oil on canvas marouflaged on cardboard depicting a lively landscape, probably of the Dauphiné, dear to François-Auguste Ravier, with a composition structured around a body of water and slender vegetation.
The scene is distinguished by a rich, vibrant pictorial material, with a free, expressive touch. The deep tones, blending blues, browns and ochres, reflect a sensitive search for light effects, characteristic of the work of Ravier, considered a precursor of Impressionism.
Here, the artist favors an atmospheric approach in which color and light take precedence over detail, lending the whole a great modernity. This treatment of the landscape, influenced by the Barbizon school, is what makes his work so singular.
François-Auguste Ravier, born in Lyon in 1814 and died in Morestel in 1895, was a major figure in 19th-century landscape painting, particularly attached to the landscapes of the Dauphiné region, which he largely helped to reveal.
The work is presented in an elegant carved wood frame gilded with gold leaf, protected by glass. Please note that the presence of this glass can make the shots more delicate, with some reflections visible in the photographs.
Very fine collector's work, both decorative and representative of a painting in full evolution towards greater freedom and sensitivity.
