Louis XVI Reading Table, 18th Century
Small Louis XVI style reading table in solid mahogany. A middle table with an adjustable screen to regulate brightness or heat when brought close to a fireplace to benefit from the warmth. Resting on four spindle-shaped legs finished with bronze sabots, an intermediate shelf joins the base. The belt features a lockable storage drawer, upholstered in a well-preserved 18th-century floral wallpaper. The Carrara marble top is belted with mahogany. On the back, a sliding screen allows you to play with the light when this small table was placed near a window for reading and writing. In the hive, close to the fireplace, the screen acts as a heat regulator.
The height of the screen in the closed position is 100cm, which can rise to 145cm.
