Fernand Le Chuiton Painting Brittany Finistère Seaside Marine Low Tide Boat 1930
Fernand Le Chuiton XXe bord de mer à marée basse Bretagne
Beautiful oil on canvas signed Fernand Le Chuiton, depicting a Breton shoreline at low tide, animated by a vast rocky shoreline and distant islets under a clear sky with pearly tones. The composition is seductive in its simplicity, its horizontal breath and the quality of its material, particularly sensitive in the treatment of the rocks and passes uncovered by the ebb.
The painter favors a painting of climate, silence and breathing. The impasto of the rocks, the breaks of light on the foreshore, the mauves, bluish grays and creamy whites of the sky and water compose a very balanced scene, both robust and subtle. The painting reveals a true landscape painter's sensibility, nourished by observation and a very sure grasp of simplification. An essential representative of Breton landscapes around Le Conquet and North Finistère. Fernand Le Chuiton was born in Brest on October 17, 1893 and died in Brest on July 25, 1968. The BnF describes him as a general physician, central director of the Naval Health Service, associate professor of bacteriology and landscape painter. Sources in Brest add that he was a founding member of the Société d'Études de Brest et du Léon. His artistic career is presented as having begun at the École des Beaux-Arts de Brest, before a career of exhibitions in France and abroad; he is also described as a writer and poet in the notices devoted to him.
