The scene is animated by several figures, including a child, in the foreground, dressed in a white shirt, blowing into a large shell. In the distance, other bathers and walkers walk among the rocks.
The sky is bright, the rough sea hits the shore in an expressive and vibrant touch. The whole gives off an intense and poetic atmosphere, mixing naturalist observation and a sense of the picturesque. Signed and dated lower left: "Louis Thienon / Granville 1847". An annotation by the painter on the back of the panel.
The work is presented in a gilded carved wooden frame (later than the work), total dimensions: 53 x 44 cm (panel alone: 42 x 32 cm). Condition: good general condition. Note some small paint chips visible on the edges of the panel (see photos). A beautiful example of French romantic plein-air painting from the mid-19th century.
