Victor Vassine Painting Still Life With Samovar And Pitcher
Artist: Victor Vassine
Victor Vassine, gouache on paper, still life with samovar, circa 1950, signed. A beautiful gouache on paper signed by the Russian artist Victor Vassine, circa 1950, depicting a still life of great visual vibrancy. The composition brings together a copper samovar, a blue and white vase, a bouquet with red, yellow, and black accents, some fruit, and, in the background, an opening treated like a window or a painting within a painting. The whole is constructed with broad areas of flat color, stark contrasts, and highly controlled color harmonies, dominated by an intense blue that unifies the entire scene. The synthetic treatment of forms, the freedom of the drawing, and the decorative tension of the layout give the work a very appealing modernist presence. It reveals a more flexible, post-Cubist spirit of synthesis, with a colorist sensibility akin to certain expressionist and decorative explorations of the mid-20th century. The sheet is signed lower right. Russian School, 20th century, circa 1950. Gouache on paper. Signed lower right. Presented mattified and framed in a wooden frame. Frame dimensions: 44 x 36 cm.
