French School Circa 1930 : "saint-jean De Luz"
SchoolFrench circa 1930: "Saint-Jean de Luz", oil on cardboard 38X 46 cm, mounted in a wood and gilded cardboard exhibition frame 45 X 53 cm.
Yellowed varnish and traces of nails torn from an old frame around the perimeter, lower right corner chewed off.
This unusual angle view of the famous Maison de l'Infante inSaint-Jean de Luz is unfortunately unsigned, but what strength in this but what strength there is in this paste, laid down with accuracy, ardor and generosity!
Suggesting rather than showing, it can be compared to the work of the great Basque masters such as Labrouche and Elizaga, although it can't be attributed to them, or simplyor simply French masters who came to the Basque Country...
