Ink drawing enhanced with watercolor depicting an architectural cross-section of a neoclassical building. The composition shows a volume covered by a coffered cupola, resting on an entablature carried by a colonnade. The smooth columns are surmounted by finely-indicated capitals.
The precise ink outline is complemented by washes in sober tones - ochre, grey and beige - distinguishing the different parts of the structure. The whole is presented in a regular layout, centered on the legibility of the cross-sectional elevation.
The harmonious proportions and strict ordering testify to a direct reference to classical antiquity, reinterpreted according to the rationalist principles of the Age of Enlightenment.
