Maison Auclert, Paris. A 18k Gold Ring Set With A Roman Carnelian Intaglio And Its Impression.
Artist: Maison Auclert, Paris
Stone: 9 × 11 mm
Gold (18k-750) TDD 58½ - US 8½-8¾ - UK Q-Q½ (modifiable)
Weight: 5.8 g
Intaglio: Roman art 1st century BC - 1st century AD.C.
A jewel of exceptional refinement, uniting an ancient Roman intaglio with a setting in the finest tradition of Parisian goldsmithing.
The engraved carnelian depicts a shell - a motif of rich symbolic resonance in the ancient world, associated with Venus, the sea and the journey of the soul. The engraving is precise and deeply incised, the radiating veins of the shell rendered with great clarity.
The 18-carat gold setting, by the renowned Parisian firm Auclert, is designed as a double-sided ring of remarkable ingenuity: a hinged oval lid, engraved on its inner face with a gold impression of the intaglio, opens to reveal the antique stone set beneath - allowing the ring to function simultaneously as signet ring, collector's item and jewel of intimate complexity.
The gold print faithfully renders the carved shell, creating a dialogue between the antique stone and modern goldsmithing that is as intellectually as it is visually arresting.
Each piece of jewelry comes with a certificate of authentication signed by Cresci experts Bianca Massard and Gabriele Vangelli, including additional documentation if available and a comprehensive description of the piece.
