Bronze Antique Japanese Bronze Kannon (guanyin) Bodhisattva Of Compassion Edo-meiji Period

A sublime Japanese bronze figure of Kannon (Guanyin), the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Edo to early Meiji period, 19th century.

The Goddess is shown seated in meditation, enveloped in a flowing hooded robe, her hands resting calmly in her lap. The serene facial expression, with gently closed eyes and softly modelled features, reflects the refined aesthetic of Japanese Buddhist sculpture of this period. The drapery is elegantly rendered, with fluid folds cascading over the body, conveying both stillness and grace.

The figure is presented on a carved wooden base of similar period, not original to the sculpture but well suited to it, providing an attractive and harmonious display.
