Pierre Ambrogiani was born in Ajaccio, but his family soon decided to settle in Marseille. From then on, his youth was that of the children of the people of the southern port. He developed an artistic language from an early age, revealing a strong interest in drawing and modeling. At the age of 12, he became a "little telegraph operator" in Marseille, and the following year exhibited his santons in a crib at an annual meeting of postal workers. In 1923, at the age of 16, the painter Auzias, seduced by his colorful figurines, offered him a place on the sidelines of his exhibition at the goldsmith Langlois. In 1937, he took the plunge and devoted himself entirely to painting, participating in the Salon d'Automne, of which he became a member. From 1948 to 1980, he participated in numerous group exhibitions of contemporary French art in France and abroad, including Paris, Marseille, Toulouse, New York, London, Oxford, Philadelphia, Turin and Zurich. Over the years, artist Pierre Ambrogianibecame a household name in France and a major international figure, flying the colors of the Midi region. His works reveal a Modern Provence, where shapes dissolve in color. Moving more and more towards the stripping away of form and drawing, the artist is approaching a voluntarily figurative abstraction.
