Rare drawing and gouache depicting Henri d'Artois, Duc de Bordeaux, Comte de Chambord and his older sister Louise d'Artois, Duchesse de Berry.
This drawing is unsigned, but I have found an engraving with the same subject, by Ferréol BONNEMAISON (1766 - 1827).
Henri, Charles, Ferdinand, Marie, Dieudonné d'Artois was born on September 29, 1820, a few months after his father's assassination on the night of February 13-14, 1820. He was the grandson of Charles X and the last legitimate male descendant of Louis XV.
He died childless in Austria in 1883.
This drawing bears annotations on the back.
It reads: "Duc de Bordeaux : Comte de Chambord. Duchesse de Parme.
La duchesse de Berry était Madame, fille de Louis XVI et Marie Antoinette.
Enfants du Duc et Duchesse de Berry".
This drawing, executed circa 1820 - 1821, is presented in its original pitchpin frame. Also on the back is a copy of a page showing a miniature portrait of the Duc de Bordeaux, future Comte de Chambord, called Henri V by Passot.
This miniature is on display at the Musée Carnavalet, which has several objects and paintings related to the Comte de Chambord.
The same applies to the Musée de Bordeaux and the Château de Chambord, which have collections related to the Comte d'Artois.
