Kilim Avshar. Anatolia. Circa 1950. 140 X 116 Cm
This Anatolian Avshar kilim features a rich visual vocabulary typical of the Turkmen tribes of southern Anatolia. The motifs are not merely decorative: they convey messages related to protection, fertility, tribal identity and daily life.
The composition is organized on several vertical axes. This symbolizes order, worldly balance and family harmony.
The central medallion acts as a symbolic heart, sometimes interpreted as a sacred or protective space.
Woven wool on wool. The weave is extremely fine and refined. The piece is supple and light.
Exclusively vegetal hues, deep and harmonious. Tones of burgundy, wine lees, midnight blue, ecru and olive green.
Avshar kilims are known for their marked geometry, strong contrasts,
a certain graphic tension (very dynamic shapes)
They reflect a nomadic tribal culture, where each motif has a symbolic and identity-related function.
Circa 1950
