Art Deco Period Pendant In Gold, Jade And Pearls
This beautiful, large pendant is in plain yellow gold, with a chinoiserie geometric motif. It is hinged and holds in the center a large square bi-convex jadeite plate with rounded edges. The jade is a beautiful translucent bluish-green color with a browner zone at the edge, with a beautiful antique polish.
The jadeite plate, pierced at the top and bottom with two holes, certainly comes from an old mandarin necklace or Chao Zhu court necklace from the 19th century.
Europeans used many of the jade pieces dismantled by the Chinese in the early 20th century to create Art Deco jewelry in the fashionable chinoiserie style, with the Maison Cartier producing pieces emblematic of this style!
Three white baroque Pampille beads frame the motif, the one at the bottom terminating an articulated motif too.
Unpunched gold, tested 14 carats at the touchstone.
A spectacular, moving, tactile piece of jewelry with an assertive style!
FINE CONDITION! Art Deco period circa 1920-1925.
Dimensions 6.8cm x 5.4cm
Weight 30g
