Fan project by Eugène Louis Lambert depicting three kittens playing with a carpet. The watercolor is signed lower right.
Eugène Louis Lambert (1825-1900) was a pupil of Paul Delaroche and Eugène Delacroix. A friend of Maurice Sand, he spent several years in Nohant, where he was one of the main protagonists of the private theater set up by Georges Sand's son. He mainly painted cats, which he regularly exhibited at the Paris Salons, with such success that he was nicknamed the Raphael of Cats.
The watercolor, signed lower right, is under marie-louise and measures 30x61 cm. Some spotting, visible on the photographs, is to be noted.
