Maurice-Pierre Chevallier (1894-1960) exhibited almost permanently at the Salon de la Marine (Musée de la Marine, Palais de Chaillot. Paris) and was a member of the Salon des Artistes Français.
The artist is known as a sailor who immortalized Brittany in the 1950s.
Our painting is a fine example of the talent of this artist recognized by naval institutions, but who was not one of the holders of the official title of peintre de la Marine awarded by the Ministry of Defense. Chevallier painted the Breton coastline extensively, particularly southern Finistère and Morbihan, masterfully capturing the light and peaceful atmosphere of the small Cornish ports.
