Attracted to drawing and painting at an early age, Chafic Abboud interrupted his engineering studies in 1946 and enrolled at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts.
In 1947, he left for Paris. He attended André Lhote's studio in 1949, Fernand Léger's classes in 1951 and then, from 1952 to 1956, the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, as an independent student. In 1959, he took part in the Paris Biennale.
In 1961, he was awarded the Victor-Choquet Prize (Ministry of Finance, Paris) and, in 1964, the Sursock Museum Prize (Beirut, Lebanon).
During his lifetime, Shafic Abboud presented some fifty solo exhibitions in Lebanon, France, Europe (Germany, Netherlands, Italy) and the United States, and took part in numerous group shows (salons, biennales, FIAC).
He was a member of the committee of the Salon des réalités nouvelles.
