Rémy Peyranne (1935-2018), The Snake Charmer, oil on canvas, signed and dated 1966 lower right, 90 x 116 cm. Born in Toulouse on October 9, 1935, he entered the Toulouse School of Fine Arts in 1952, graduating with honors. In 1958, he was shortlisted for the Prix de Rome for painting. In 1967, he became a professor of drawing and painting, holding the Chair and appointed Professor of Architectural Drawing at the Higher Workshop. At the same time, Rémy exhibited his work, holding about a dozen exhibitions a year. His paintings were largely inspired by his countless travels. A monumental canvas of Venice is on display at the Abattoirs Contemporary Art Museum. His imagination was fertile. "A painter must work every day!" he liked to say, working day and night.
