Sculptor Constant Roux (1865-1942) began and brilliantly concluded his career with a single work: La Colère d'Achille. It opened the doors to the Villa Médicis in the 1894 Grand Prix de Rome competition, and won him a medal of honor at the Salon de la Société des Artistes Français in 1930. Indeed, this powerful statue, abundantly duplicated in bronze, often overshadows the artist who conceived it. However, Constant Roux's endearing personality and talent merit closer attention: supported by the French state and a number of loyal patrons, foremost among them Prince Albert 1st of Monaco, he produced a small but highly artistic body of work, including portraits, monuments, decorations and objets d'art.

He was also the first French artist to be awarded a medal of honor by the Société de l'artiste français.
