G. Leclercq (Gérard Leclercq / Leclerc) and J. Lardin (Jacques Lardin) are two French earthenware makers and master ceramists famous for reviving and perpetuating the tradition of Roanne earthenware. [1] Partners for nearly forty years, they left their mark on the arts and crafts of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region through their studio, founded in 1975 and located in Ouches, near Roanne (Loire). [1, 2] The Journey & The Studio Gérard Leclercq and Jacques Lardin joined forces in early 1975 to found the Faïences Leclercq Lardin studio. Their main goal was to revive the “Vieux Roanne” style, a traditional folk-inspired earthenware whose roots date back to the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. [1, 2, 3, 4] After a long career crafting and painting art pieces prized by collectors and the interior design world, the two artisans retired, leading to the permanent closure of their workshop in May 2012.
