Engraving Demachy Descourtis Porte Saint-bernard Quai De La Tournelle Paris
This engraving was made by Descourtis (engraver) from a painting by Demachy circa 1785.
Charles-Melchior Descourtis, born 1752 in Paris where he died December 28, 18191, was a French engraver, specializing in color etching.
Pierre-Antoine Demachy (September 17, 1723, Paris - September 10, 1807, Paris) was a French artist specializing in paintings of ruins, trompe-l'oeil architectural decorations and imaginative scenes of Paris.
This engraving depicts the Pont Saint-Bernard and Quais de la Tournelle in Paris.
The Porte Saint-Bernard, also known as the Porte de la Tournelle, which has now disappeared, was one of the Paris gates of Philippe Auguste's enceinte.
The engraving is in color, 18th century, beautifully made. The frame is later, from the 19th century.
We report rubbing and freckling on the engraving, the paper is yellowed all around especially in the margin.
Note rubbing, gilding wear and some missing on the frame.
The whole is visible on the photos, however the work remains in acceptable condition.
We are selling this print without protective glass.
We have performed a rough cleaning.
