Antique Tibetan Buddhist Bronze Phurba Ritual Dagger, Unusual Small Size, 19th Century

A unusual antique Tibetan Buddhist bronze phurba (kila) ritual dagger, originating from the Himalayan region (Tibet or Nepal) and dating to the 19th century.

This well-cast miniature example is notable for its rare small size, while retaining all the classical features of a traditional phurba. It presents a sharply defined three-sided blade, symbolising the cutting of ignorance and obstacles in Vajrayana Buddhist practice. The shaft is formed with openwork vajra motifs, leading to a finely detailed wrathful deity head terminal, surmounted by a stylised finial.

Phurbas are sacred ritual objects rather than weapons, used in tantric Buddhist ceremonies and also kept as protective devotional items for personal shrines, travel altars, or amuletic purposes.

The bronze displays an attractive, naturally aged patina consistent with its age and use.
