Zoomorphic bird cup ( stylized hoopoe )
with handle ( for the head ) and pouring spout ( for the tail ),
the plumage being hand-painted on the sides.
Celadon glazed tin-glazed earthenware and cameo
of brown on a white background shaded with gray.
Fired in wood.

Michel Barbier ( 1931 - 2005 ), studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts
de Genève under Philippe Lambercy.
From 1955 to 1970, he worked in Vallauris as a decorator
at Gustave Reynaud's poterie du Mûrier ( Jean Derval's brother-in-law)
as well as for Hélène Ugo's studio.
At this time, he signs his personal creations with a stylized bird.
