Empire Style Mahogany Veneer Sideboard – Early 20th Century
Empire style mahogany veneer sideboard – Early 20th century. A beautiful and wide Empire style sideboard, veneered in flame mahogany with butterfly-wing pattern, offering a particularly elegant and warm symmetrical design. The front opens with three doors, the central one adorned with a finely chiseled gilt bronze laurel wreath, an emblematic symbol of the Empire decorative repertoire. The keyhole escutcheons and handles, also in gilt bronze, subtly highlight the quality of the craftsmanship. The upper frieze is adorned with a delicate motif of palmettes and scrolls in bronze, typical of early 20th-century ornamental vocabulary. The uprights are embellished with bronze mounts decorated with stylized torches, terminating in tapered bronze sabot feet, lending the piece a beautiful lightness despite its generous proportions. The top is crowned with a dark gray marble slab (either added later or original), providing contrast and refinement. This piece of furniture is characteristic of the Empire style, combining rigorous lines, perfect symmetry, and a controlled richness of ornamentation.
