Junkers Airplane Chair In Aluminium And Leather, Germany, 1930s.
Junkers aircraft chair in aluminum and leather, Germany, 1930s.
The Junkers company, founded by the German engineer Hugo Junkers at the beginning of the 20th century, played a major role in the history of aviation. As early as 1919, with the Junkers F 13, it produced the first all-metal transport aircraft, marking a break with wood and fabric structures. In the 1920s and 1930s, Junkers developed civilian aircraft such as the G 24, designed to transport passengers in enclosed cabins, which were safer and more comfortable.
This innovation was based on the use of aluminum and lightweight tubular structures, characteristics also found in the aircraft furnishings, such as the leather seats mounted on metal frames. The company was also part of the German Modernist movement and the Bauhaus, where priority was given to functionality, simple forms, and the use of industrial materials.
