Portrait Of A Man, Early 19th Century
A fine portrait of a man in a green frock coat from the early 19th century. Oil on canvas mounted on a wooden panel. This portrait, in the style of L. Boilly's works, is remarkably delicate. The complexion is very well rendered, and the fineness of the hair, as well as the pleats of the jabot, suggest the hand of a skilled painter. There are a few minor losses to the paint layer, but these are insignificant. The oval frame is made of stuccoed and gilded wood, with minor restorations needed on the edges. Our restorers can easily undertake this work upon request. Cleaning, repairing the missing paint, and applying a new varnish will restore luminosity and depth to this painting. According to family tradition, this portrait was part of a larger work signed L. Boilly, which would confirm the painter's skill and mastery of technique. Canvas dimensions: 55 cm x 46.5 cm. Dimensions with frame: 63.5 cm x 54 cm.
