18th-century Framed Engraving
A beautiful 18th-century black and white engraving, "First View of Charenton," after François Boucher and engraved by Jacques Philippe Lebas. As indicated, it is dedicated to M. Portail, Painter to the King and Keeper of His Majesty's Plans and Paintings. It is framed in a fine, modern, patinated and gilded wood frame. The engraving is in used condition, with some creases, but is in good overall condition. Jacques Philippe Lebas (or Le Bas), 18th century, was a draftsman and engraver specializing in etching and burin, born in Paris on July 8, 1707, and died in the same city on April 14, 1783. He engraved religious subjects, historical subjects, genre scenes and portraits, typographic subjects and coats of arms, and landscapes. He was elected to the Academy on February 23, 1734. He was a student of Herisset. Exhibited from 1737 to 1781. Image dimensions: 39 x 32.5 cm. Framed dimensions: 53.5 x 47.5 cm.
