“tijuca” Suspension Design By Ingo maurer, Circa 1980
Rare suspension lamp by German designer Ingo Maurer, model Tijuca, composed of two arms rotatable through 360° mounted on tensioned cables, following the line of the low-voltage modular systems developed by Maurer from the 1970s onward.
The set includes the original working transformer, two steel cables approximately 4 meters long, and two metal arms about 150 cm in length, each ending with a flat round counterweight, one of which shows a fissure.
Both reflectors are present but damaged and difficult to restore; replacement parts are no longer available from the manufacturer.
Despite these issues, this rare suspension remains highly sought after for its historical significance in Ingo Maurer’s body of work.
Given the reported condition — a complete example in very good state can reach €2,500–3,000 on the specialized market — this piece is estimated at a little under half that value.
