A Deep Dish In Monochrome, To Be Identified - 18th Century
A large, circular, blue monochrome serving dish, to be identified - 18th century. Decorated with a house/church bordering a lake, and in the background, a village with its church steeple. The rim is decorated with four cartouches depicting villages with castles and boats. The presence of numerous castles suggests an Alsatian motif (the cartouche on the right represents the Rhine Valley crossing the Alsatian plain between the Vosges Mountains and the Black Forest). The manufacturer could be Strasbourg, but this needs confirmation, or elsewhere. Any information is welcome. The dish has been previously restored with staples and has a few minor chips repaired (2, 3, and 10 o'clock positions). Diameter 29 cm, height 6.5 cm. Please do not hesitate to request additional photos.
