Oil on canvas

Very good condition
Originally from Grenoble, muse and second wife of Jules Flandrin, Henriette Deloras regularly stayed in Paris from the 1920s onwards. Preferring pastels, the artist sketched the cafés of Montparnasse, jazz clubs, the dancers of the Moulin Rouge, and the effervescence of artistic life. Exhibited at Bernheim-Jeune, she found her voice in the Paris of the Roaring Twenties.
In 1928, she exhibited floral compositions at the Salon d'Automne, earning her praise from an admiring Pierre Bonnard: "Now that's painting!" While Henriette Deloras's pastel work is well-known and was the subject of a fine retrospective at the Musée de Grenoble in 2008, her oil paintings are rare and of remarkable technique.
Impasto and flat areas of color rhythmically structure the composition with a gentle tension, expressing the strong temperament of this female painter. Possessing a marvelous sensitivity, her work is all the more precious given that the artist died in 1941 at the age of 39.
