Edouard Smets in Liège (1820-1907), a student of Lovinfosse (clockmaker to Liège Cathedral) in 1832 – clockmaking workshop located at 30 rue des Dominicains. Officer's traveling clock with a grand striking mechanism for the quarters on two gongs, a petite striking mechanism, silence, and striking on demand. Bronze case consisting of a cyma molding base, four fluted columns with antique Corinthian capitals, and a handle on top. Enamel dial with alarm. Finely chased floral decoration. Functional escapement mechanism; the striking mechanism will need servicing. A chip in the rear glass in the upper right corner should be noted.
