Rare Malagan dance mask collected on the Tabar Islands in Papua New Guinea. This mask, called "Tatanua," represents a person's soul and is used in commemorative ceremonies. These relatively lightweight wooden masks are worn during ritual dances. This particular mask was used in a large ceremony held in February 2020 on Tatau Island. Made of wood, plant fibers (including coconut and pandanus), coconut bark, pigments, and shells. Sold with a display stand. Approx. 51 x 20 x 45 cm / €1700 including stand and shipping within Europe.
