Terracotta Sculpture By Clodion Depicting A Faun Playing The Flute.
Artist: Clodion
This superb and imposing bronze sculpture by the renowned French sculptor Claude Michel, known as Clodion (1738-1814), presents a composition inspired by the Arcadian world of fauns, mythology, and pastoral imagery. At the center, a young faun with gentle features and curly hair sits relaxed, playing the flute, suggesting a bucolic and musical atmosphere. His posture is slightly bent, as he focuses intently on his instrument. Around him, two young fauns interact, dancing to the music and adding dynamism to the composition. They nestle against his leg, their lively gestures and delicately modeled features embodying the charm and playful spontaneity so characteristic of Clodion's art. The sculpture displays great finesse, from the finely detailed hair and the texture of the fur to the rendering of the anatomy. The whitened patina enriches the volumes, accentuates the interplay of light, and highlights the relief. High-quality work in very good condition. Old restoration not visible to the naked eye.
