Elegant Egyptian Revival Style Sideboard, Cuban Mahogany, Inset Blue Turquin Marble, Caryatids & Claw Feet
Artist: ?
A rare and beautiful sideboard, veneered in flamed red Cuban mahogany, dating from the First Empire period, with a raised blue Turquin marble top bordered by a marble slab. In the pure "Return from Egypt" style, this beautiful and elegant piece of furniture is sure to impress with its high quality, choice of materials, craftsmanship, and assembly. It rests on large black lacquered claw feet and is bordered by a generous plinth. Above, two elegant doors without visible hinges open without a central vertical rail to reveal a spacious two-level area (back and shelf). Above these are two generously sized drawers with a very fine finish. On the sides of the front are columns adorned with caryatid heads, and at the base, two small, joined feet, chiseled and mercury-gilded to perfection, rest on a projecting plinth supported by the substantial claw foot at the base. The double door lock operates with a special diamond-shaped key. The door's lock escutcheons are secured by a clever system of a tab that retracts into the lock, fixed to the middle shelf. This allows for full accessibility when opening.
