Moustier 18th Century. Covered Broth
This charming covered earthenware bouillon, made in the 18th century, is intriguing due to its shape, reminiscent of 17th-century silverware, and its footed bowls with undulating bodies. The decoration inevitably evokes the workshops of the Ferrat brothers in Moustiers, with the delicate colors of the scattered flowers, the pink borders, and the lid's handle in the shape of a ripe, plump fig, accompanied by leaves in two shades of green. The side handles are unusual, featuring elegant and skillfully crafted soft green bramble stems. The fine, pinkish clay and the light glaze suggest, in the absence of a signature, that this piece is produced in Moustiers. However, the seriousness of the evidence calls for caution, and any substantiated details are welcome. There are a few chips on the lid, otherwise it is in good condition and free of cracks.
