17th Century, Pen And Ink Wash. Italian Landscape
Artists have always been fascinated by the beauty of the Italian countryside, and in the 17th century, they produced numerous small studies, often in pen and wash, of these landscapes that inevitably evoke paradise. This one, executed with meticulous care and skill, depicts a slow life, at the pace of donkeys wearing stockings, in a landscape already steeped in romance. Note the economy of means with which the donkeys' legs are suggested, perfectly observed. This scene was created by an expert hand, and perhaps it could be attributed to its author, an Italian, or an artist passing through. The drawing is mounted on a late 19th-century mount; the frame has not been opened, and everything is in beautiful original condition. Dimensions of the drawing: 17cm x 15cm
