A richly carved two-part walnut buffet – Renaissance style – 19th century. This important two-part buffet in solid walnut, in the Renaissance style, was made during the 19th century. This remarkable piece is distinguished by the richness and quality of its carved decoration. The front is structured by uprights adorned with high-relief foliate motifs, framing panels with geometric diamond-point decoration. The whole is punctuated by numerous finely carved mascarons, representing expressive faces, placed at the corners and on the front. The central frieze opens with two richly decorated drawers, separated by a central carved mask. The upper section is crowned with an overhanging cornice, adorned with a sculpted frieze decorated with scrolling foliage and a central motif depicting a bird with outstretched wings. The lower section, resting on ball feet, echoes the same decorative vocabulary with molded panels and sculpted uprights, lending the whole a beautiful unity and a strong architectural presence. The carving is exquisite, characteristic of the 19th-century historicist taste inspired by the French Renaissance. Period: 19th century. Style: Renaissance (in the style of).
