Pair Of Mahogany And Leather Study Or Office Chairs - Parisian Work From The Empire Period

A pair of solid mahogany and mahogany veneer armchairs, late Empire period. A simple and elegant model with four saber legs, partially fluted lotus armrests, palmettes carved in relief at the leg-seat junctions, and a pedimented top to the backrest. Beautifully upholstered in antique black leather. While armchairs of this type exist on the market, this is the highest quality version. Generous proportions and palmettes carved in relief, not from solid wood; pedimented backrest. These elements indicate a high-end finish: the cabinetmaker did not attempt to skimp on the mahogany as on lesser-made models. Although unstamped, the excellent quality of the construction and finish is the work of a master chairmaker, most likely Pierre Antoine Bellangé or François Maigret, who produced chairs with very similar lines and finishes. In good condition, both for everyday use and everyday living, the French polish has been cleaned and repolished by our cabinetmaker. We have chosen to retain the original cracked leather, which has a beautiful patina and lends the feel of a study or office chair, perfect for a library. However, we can also have them reupholstered upon request. Back height: 94cm; Seat height: 42cm; Width: 57.5cm
