Fernand Carette (Marcinelle, 1921 - 2005)
Framed in natural wood. Dimensions 54 x 63 cm.
Dimensions of the painting 52 x 61 cm. Signed and dated 1949.
Belgian painter. Trained at the Academy of Charleroi (1935-1946). Between 1940 and 1948, he sought his own style and aesthetic. First exhibition at the "Le Parc" Gallery in Charleroi in 1949. He worked in both figurative and abstract styles but most often opted for lyrical abstraction, through which he could express his personality without having to disguise his struggle, his sorrow, his despair, his disgust. Around 1965, he moved increasingly towards Surrealism and worked with the "Phases" Group. Winner of the "Young Belgian Painting" award in 1959. He created a mural for the Bank of Africa in Brussels in 1956 and, in 1961, worked on the decoration of a ceiling for the Stock Exchange of Commerce and Industry in Charleroi. He exhibited in Brussels at the "Saint-Laurent" Gallery, the "Quadri" Gallery in 1990, and the "Dupuis" Gallery (Crédit Agricole) in 2002.
