Sculpture Of Mercury Or Hermes By The Austrian Sculptor Franz Seifert
Artist: Franz Seifert 1866-1951
An interesting sculpture of Mercury holding a cornucopia in his right hand. Franz Seifert studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Carl Kundmann and Edmund von Hellmer. After a long study trip abroad (probably to Rome), he joined Hellmer for some projects. Seifert created busts, statues, and smaller sculptures for living rooms or gardens, often with mythological themes. In 1916, he was appointed professor. In 1929, he retired from public life and moved to Linz during World War II, where he died.
