Gilt Spelter Clock With Allegorical Subject – Napoleon III Period – 19th Century
Gilt spelter mantel clock with allegorical subject – Napoleon III period – 19th century. An elegant gilt spelter mantel clock depicting an allegorical female figure seated in a graceful pose, accompanied by symbolic attributes evoking the arts or sciences. The composition, typical of the Napoleon III/Second Empire style, harmoniously combines sculpture and horology. The female figure, draped in the antique style, is finely rendered with beautiful depictions of folds and expressions. Around her, various decorative elements (instruments, books, or symbolic objects) enrich the scene. The circular white enamel dial with Roman numerals is signed “Vier à Nantes,” framed by a mount adorned with a beaded frieze. The mechanism is visible at the back, along with the bell. The whole rests on an architectural base of blackened wood and inlaid marble, providing contrast and elegance to the gilding. Dimensions: Height: 44 cm Width: 58 cm Depth: 17 cm Condition: Good overall condition. Wear consistent with age to the gilding and minor imperfections to the dial (a small chip is visible). The mechanism is present (functioning not guaranteed). Period: 19th century (Napoleon III) Materials: Gilded spelter, blackened wood, marble, enamel dial. A very beautiful decorative clock, ideal for a classic interior, an office, or an antique clock collection.
