Artist: Premier Empire Cantinière
Part of a First Empire mule breastplate. The upper support is made of strong brown leather, to which three large, round brass plates, 16 cm in diameter, are attached. These plates are fixed to an axle, allowing them to move forward and backward. Engraved on these plates are "VIVE . L'EMPIRE . FRANCAIS" (Long Live the French Empire) and, in the center, an Imperial Eagle beneath a wreath. Note: the eagles' tentacles are hammered. The hinges are riveted to the leather. France. First Empire.
