Proantic Description (FR): Large Japanese Satsuma Platter, Kyoto Workshop, Warrior Scene, Meiji Period. Description in French (Proantic): Large Japanese Satsuma platter from the late Meiji period, attributable to a Kyoto workshop working for the high-end export market. This piece does not belong to ordinary tourist production, but to a category of much more refined works, where the quality of the design, the richness of the gilding, and the precision of the faces play an essential role in the overall effect. The decoration presents a complex scene of warriors and figures, executed with remarkable finesse. The faces are modeled with great character and retain, even at high magnification, a high degree of expressiveness. The armor, clothing, and secondary details are rendered with rare precision, confirming a level of execution far above average. The gold-dotted background, the moringa work, and the richness of the gilding give the piece a sumptuous brilliance without compromising the legibility of the composition. The large size of this dish further enhances its visual impact. With a diameter of 36.5 cm, it is a particularly decorative presentation piece, designed to impress with the richness of its surface and the quality of its painting. Although the reverse is unmarked, attribution to a Kyoto workshop remains consistent with the technique, the style of the design, the treatment of the faces, the quality of the relief, and the abundant use of gilding, as not all high-quality Satsuma pieces are systematically signed. It should also be noted that the quality of the figurative scene, the delicacy of the expressions, and the mastery of the decoration bring this work close to the finest productions of the Kyoto school, intended for a demanding clientele sensitive to both technical virtuosity and decorative effect. Condition: a small chip on the rim, visible in the photograph. Apart from this minor flaw, the item is in excellent condition, with a particularly strong overall presentation. Dimensions: diameter 36.5 cm; height 5 cm; weight 2,345 g. Please examine the accompanying photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of this description. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance. It is important to note that shipping costs include labor, packaging, and postage.
