This anonymous work is in the style of early 20th-century Italian creations.
The two children, a girl and a boy, are chubby and plump, concentrating intently on placing their next piece.
The game board and checkers are well-proportioned.
This sculpture is truly exceptional, most likely a unique commissioned piece to immortalize the children of the family.
There are some losses and breaks; the boy's right arm has been previously reattached, and his fingers have been repaired with plaster.
Some of the checkers have been reattached with traces of old glue.
